Upsell

Recommend a follow-up product after the order is paid, confirmed, delivered or reviewed — with an optional real discount code.

A swipeable three-product carousel. Every Shop Now link is tracked, so orders that follow are attributed back to this message.

The best moment to sell someone a second thing is just after the first one has gone well. Upsell picks that moment for you — payment, confirmation, delivery or a happy review — and sends a carousel of three products chosen from your own catalogue.

When to send

Pick one event. Each order receives a single upsell message, sent the first time it reaches that point.

Order paidSends when an order is paid — card, PayPal, or a COD order later marked as paid. The broadest trigger, and the default choice for prepaid stores.
COD order confirmed by customerSends when the customer taps Confirm on their cash-on-delivery order. Needs COD Confirmation switched on — the card tells you if it isn't, and offers to enable it.
Order successfully deliveredSends when the courier marks the shipment delivered. The customer has the product in their hands, which is the most honest moment to recommend something else.
Customer leaves a 4★ or 5★ reviewThe warmest moment there is. Needs Ask for review switched on to collect them. Triggered by the review itself, not by an order event.

With no event selected, no upsell messages are sent at all. If your automation is on but nothing is going out, this is the first thing to check.

Delay

How long to wait after the event, from Immediately to three days. The default is 48 hours.

A couple of days feels less pushy — and gives the first order time to arrive.

Two days is the suggestion, not a floor. A "you might also like" that lands while the first order is still in transit reads as pushy, and the customer hasn't seen what they bought yet.

Five options, from fully automatic to fully manual.

Your best seller (auto)Your top-selling products, recalculated as your sales change. The safest default, and the fallback whenever another mode has nothing to offer.
From same collection (auto)Other products in the same collection as what the customer bought — usually the closest thing to "more like this".
Complementary products (from Shopify)The complementary products you've set up in Shopify's Search & Discovery app. Things that go with what they bought, not instead of it.
Related products (from Shopify)Shopify's own related-products recommendations, generated from your catalogue and shopper behaviour.
A specific productOne product you choose by hand, recommended to everyone. Right for a new launch or a product you're pushing this month.

The Complementary option links straight to Shopify's Search & Discovery app, where those relationships are configured. Products you haven't configured there fall back to your best sellers, so the message still goes out.

New stores with little order history may not have recommendations yet — those fall back to best sellers too. Nothing is ever skipped for want of a recommendation.

Add a discount coupon

Off by default, because a coupon costs you margin on every send. Switch it on and pick one of your real Shopify discount codes — you never type a code by hand, so the message can't advertise something that doesn't exist.

With a coupon attached, the message says what the discount is worth and shows the code in bold, because those are the two things the customer has to read and retype at checkout.

The code is re-checked against Shopify immediately before every send. If it's been deleted or fully used up by then, the recommendation still goes out — without the discount. A customer never receives a code that will fail at checkout.

If you switch the coupon on but don't pick a code, Wapify says so and sends the upsell without one.

Tracking what it earns

Every Shop Now button routes through a tracked link. When the customer taps it and later orders, that order is attributed to the upsell — and appears in your Revenue via Wapify figure and in the Products bought through upsell links report.

Attribution isn't limited to same-session purchases: Wapify also reads Shopify's own customer-journey data, which catches buyers who tapped the link, thought about it, and came back later. See Revenue attribution.

Where the results show up

  • Logs → Upsell — every message with its status and whether the link was tapped.
  • Analytics — messages sent, links clicked, orders and revenue attributed, and best-performing products.
  • Your dashboard — folded into Revenue via Wapify.

Sending one by hand

Select orders in Shopify, open the menu and choose Send upsell offer. It uses your configured product selection and coupon, and skips the delay. See Actions on the Orders page.
